I need the 3rd lnb to get HD on Directv. Anybody have suggestions on where to get a good one. I need one for todays All Star game!

Tom Snyder

Hrmm... I only have two lnb's and I watched the  All-Star warmup last night on 198 on DirecTV...

You only need the 3rd LNB if you want ShowTime HD or the Spanish speaking stations.  (But of course I have 3 lnbs as I get ShowHD).

Be careful with asking for that 3rd LNB. It's actually called a Sat C kit. It comes with a special multiplexer to take the A, B and C, a total of 5 or 6 lines, puts them into the multiplexer which mounts to the back of the dish. The you have the option of running up to 4 individual lines into the house, which can be used to run 4 individual boxes should you choose. Most people have 2 lines already run (Dual LNB for 2 boxes in the home) but you can run more if you want or need to.

I believe American sells the kit for $99 but you can get if from DirecTV for around $49. Is $50 worth instant gratification?

I believe that channel 198 is coming from the 29 transponder on the 119 satellite location. You should be good to go without the third "sat C kit" LNB.

Is there anyway to find out if it's working now before the game? I see it comes up on the guide.

Gregg Lengling

It is running PPV movies right now...if you turn it on you will get the prompt to hit "info" for ordering information.  Or you can just let it sit there and go check your signal strength while you have that transponder locked it.

Maybe I should just check HDNet huh. I get searching for satellite signal on HDNet. I have SAT A and SAT B hooked up to a Channelmaster switch. It has 4 outputs on it and I have the cables hooked up to Out 1 and Out 2 even though I'm not using both right now. Could it be a bad switch or is it an aiming thing?

sp44again

I can get 90% on Sat A but nothing on Sat B. This is annoying. I guess since I'm getting a signal on one that the switch is working. The only thing I can think of is switching lnb's to see if it's a faulty lnb. Any other ideas?

One other thing I noticed that I'm confused about is that the neighbor's dish looks like it is pointed due south compared to mine which is southwest. How is he getting anything?

Try flipping the cables to see if you can get a spike on B and zero on A.

BTW, this doesn't look like it was stated, but do you have the 24" dish? I just assumed......

sp44again

I do have a 24" dish. I'm going to try swapping the cables. How much should I have to move the dish to get a signal on B if A is getting 90%?

jlegge

Hoo boy...... I have no idea because it's going to depend on which way your dish is, it might need more up, more left, more right, they are all different..... but I did tweek my dish one day. It is much easier with 2 people but if you do not have 2 people you can do it one of 2 ways.

1) Move the dish a little and run inside to see if anything happened.

2) Crank your surround system up and listen while moving dish to differences in signal pings.

Heh heh... good luck!  ;)  and remember to do the adjustments in VERY small increments, baby steps....

How much is it for Flanners to stop by and try to get it to work? :)

sp44again

I used the walkie talkie method with the wife. She didn't see any signal on B when I moved it.
