I was hoping you guys could help - I am building a home in Lisbon - just west of County J, just south of County Q...

Will I be able to pick up the local HD feeds from Milwaukee?  My home will be in a lower lying area, next to the Bark River....

THANKS!

If I will be able to pick them up, I'm assuming I'll need a outdoor antenna of some sort??

I'm familiar with the area around Lake Five and yes the best bet would be an outdoor antenna...but you shouldn't have a problem.  Seeing as it is new construction....plan ahead run at least 3 runs of RG6 quad shield for antennas/satellite...real cheap to do now....make the run to an equipment area...for example an area in the basement to put a distribtution panel and run at least 2 feeds to each room you plan on having video.  While you are at it..run quad teleco cable and CAT5E cableing for computer networks.  Yeah you can go wireless for computers but hard wire is much more secure.

I am really a newbie... I have std satellite now, but don't know much about cabling and such...

My intent is to have Directv and try to get locals via over the air.. and of course roadrunner....

Where can I get tips to ensure I do the proper cabling to meet all my needs??

So far good advice.  Let's take it a step further.  The easiest time to wire the house is before the drywall is hung, at the same time the electrician is wiring the house.  If you ask you general contractor or better yet ask the electrician to install the cable at the same time he's doing the rest  the cost isn't too bad.  I would run 4 leads of RG6 cable from the "utility area" to the antenna area.  Why so many?  It's cheap now and if you add something later or a cable goes bad you have the replacement installed.  I would run some antenna rotor control cable up to the roof area too.  Even if you don't intend to install a rotor you may change your mind later.
Last time I built a house I also ran 2-RG6 cable to each and every room with the phone wires and computer wires.  This saves a lot of frustration and installing headaches later on as you change things around in the house.  And even if you sign up for cable later on these connections can be used for that.  Good luck.

I'm south of Q off of Hillside (just east of J) and I get everything but Fox 6 with an indoor RS 15-1890 I got at Radio Shack for $25.

Bottom line with running cable as everyone has mentioned: Run plenty to every room even if you think you will never need it.  Much, much cheaper and easier now.
