As much as I'd like to see MORE HD programming on 10-1, I'd also like to see better use of the multicast.

Specifically, 10-5 is on the eagle's nest. Can we please be done with that ??

Someone mentioned that 10 used to have 24/7 weather radar on that. Being the geek I am, I could see that on in my PIP as I watch 4:3 stuff on my ReplayTV (ot: loving 'American Idol' !).

Don't we have someone from WMVS/MPTV here ?

Thanks !

Hello ?

Did I say something wrong ?

Gregg Lengling

Naw Tom you didn't say anything wrong I think we all feel that way.  Mike who's on this group that works at 10 says that most of the people think the program director and the eagles are a crock.  Especially Memorial Day Weekend when they put it on channel 10 analogue for a whole hour Sunday afternoon.
Loose it and go all HDTV and put 35 on the air with the mulitcasting.  But I'm sure thats about 18 months away......gotta have a few more fundraisers to pay for the equipment and electricity.  I do believe the antenna and feedline are in place though.  I'm pretty sure a friend of mine said that the 2 antennas on the new tower are both theirs and they're both dual antennas so they should have antennas and the such for 8,10,35, and 36.

Whew ... I was feeling like Burgess Meredith in that Twilight Zone episode !!

I agree with you, Gregg. I had forgotten about the 'other' channel they had.

Heck, I'll go buy an Owen Gromme (sp ?) painting if that'll help !

Last week I sent a email to MPTV, Tom Dvorak got back to me the same day.  His response was also copied to three other people.  I identified myself as a member of this forum so I feel that I can post his response.  Here is a portion of my email,

"Channel 10.1 seems to have normal standard definition programming though I can never figure out what is on when and the other station are just standard definition feeds of PBS-U and PBS kids, etc.  Are you aware that anyone with an HDTV will already have digital cable or satellite and therefor gets these channels already?  In purchasing an HDTV I was excited to watch all of the great HDTV programming that I understand PBS broadcasts but in 3 or 4 months of HDTV I have only caught 1/2 of one train show in HD on your station.  Now I am being asked to pay $8/month for Discovery HD on Dishnetwork when I understand there is even better HD programming on PBS that I never get to see.

I do not not know who your target market is with your digital broadcasts but it is obviously not digital TV owners, which seems very odd."

I then listed questions which he answered.  I have reformatted them for easier reading.

Q1)What is your stategy regarding HDTV?

A1)At this time, because of a lack of HD programming, is to at least have programming on each of the digital channels. We will be scheduling additional hours of HD by August.

Q2)Do you plan on showing more HD programming in the future?

A2)Yes, as programming becomes available.

Q3)Why do you not seem to show all of the good PBS HD programming that is available?

A3)We air all of the PBS HD programs, but it is only about 2 hours per month.

Q4)Where can I get a current schedule for 10.1?

A4)This fall it should be listed on our website.

Q5)Do you want me to send you money and become a satisfied viewer?

Todd, you wouldn't happen to be one of the handful? LOL

Nah.

Tim is an ok guy, it's not his fault
Sure, I do 'change the channel,' but that's not the issue.

Seems as though 10 couldn't care less about us, keeping that crap on. Like I said, how about the weather radar ??

I think that Tim has been smoking too much weed, to think that Eagles nesting is useful TV.

While some viewers may be interested in seeing an eagle hatch out and grow, having it on 24/7 is a complete waste of bandwidth.  I've seen it at night where viewers can get a stunning picture of a black screen !  Doh!

If viewers want to see a bald eagle, may I suggest that the viewer would be better served by PBS editing the footage down into a one hour program and adding some narration?

I'd like to reclaim the bandwidth for more useful programming, like HDTV.....

Perhaps we should all write to Tim and tell him what a moron he is?

I don't mind the eagles if it was balenced out with more HD programming. I know there is more out there for PBS to show, but the multicasting has gotta be toned down somewhat. I dont even bother checking PBS anymore cause they dont follow the national PBS broadcasts.
I have been following Tim's articles for a while now. I dont think he is even the least bit interested in HDTV or digital broadcasts other than to give Time Warner a plug for their fake digital service. I am glad he gave us a plug though (actually I think it was Jim Hall). He needs to do a few more blurbs about the HD/digital transition.
