Did he "forget" to mention something today?

The HD commercials were the stars of the show, yet they were not even mentioned???

OK...I am going to try and respect the new forum rules!

Tim C. you have to be the world's most

Anyway, I kinda thought the Halftime show presented in HD was kinda neato!

I wonder how much vacation time Tim C gets from his job at MJ-S? He must get about 25 weeks of vacation, because often times when you look for his column you find the little box in the back page of the metro section says "Tim Cuprisin is on Vacation, his column will return next week."

Very well, today's article surely did critisizes HDTV. If he can't swallow in all the new technology...surely I could take over his job real easy.  Surely wouldn't mind the benifits, especially 25 weeks of paid vacation per year!

While the Journal company offers its employees a lucrative benefits program, 25 weeks of vacation is not one of the perks.

There are 52 weeks in a year, 5 days per week, for potentially 260 columns.  I can find 220 columns for 2002... which would make it 8 weeks during which there are no columns.  I assume he goes to broadcast and programming conventions, during which he's working but not writing.

Personally (as posted in another thread ) I thought his article was pretty accurate and objective. But that's just my opinion.

From Cuprisin column Jan. 27, 2003:

But the overall broadcast was stunning, especially the sprinkling of high-def ads that were aired in the format with booming CD-quality sound.

Exactly, he didn't say anything about them in the 1/26/03 column which was specifically about the ads run during the superbowl. Why now instead of then if he found the ads "stunning?" I don't get it.

CD quality sound ???!!!!???
Try Dolby Digital 5.1 sound baby......

And to vary a quote from Sienfeld

"It was real, and it was spectacular!"

QuoteI don't get it

Typically, the Super Bowl provides two columns worth of the obligatory stuff to cover... the ads and the ratings. This year he had three... ads, ratings and the HD broadcast. With only so many column inches, he simply had to determine how to divide the content. And the HD ads could have gone in either column. They seem to fit better in the seocnd column.
The ratings took less space and so provided the room he needed for a discussion of HD and the HD ads.

If the article in question appeard on the paper on 1/26, he woulldnt of known about the Hi-Def ads.  That article would of had to been written Friday or Saturday in order to make it to publishing time.

Mondays article could of been written and filed electronically to make it into the paper Monday morning

It appears to have been written during and/or after the game. He references commercials specifically by quarter.

Tom Snyder

The digital version of his column typically launches at around 10PM the night before it appears in the paper. And it often includes info from that evening's shows.

I'm not sure if Tim wrote his Ads piece with advance copies of the ads and advance information on which quarter they'd air, or by actually watching the broadcast. His review of the SNL halftime alternative included info that required him to have watched it.

But either way, let's cut him some slack. We're not only complaining that he doesn't report certain things a certain way, but now we're complaining about the day he reports it...

What was confusing was there were two different articles that were posted here. Frankly I do not read much of the JS when the Packers/Badgers Football is done unless someone posts them.

The first article referenced in THIS thread was awful and derrogatory. While the second article detailing the commercials was actually pretty good. It almost seemed that one of them was "ghost-written."

My original disgust was that Tim watched (reviewed) the SNL drivel instead of the halftime HD material. I actually thought the halftime concert in HD was the highlight of the evening. I woulda taped the SNL stuff for later review, which he may have done, as he discusses the halftime show in the next day's column.

So confusing... there must be two of him!?

I have watched the halftime show a couple of times since. I think this live action HDTV stuff is going to revolutionize TV.............................PSYCH...it's just a fad...like the Internet!  :)
