Alas this is the standard response you'll get from any cable/satelite provider.  No one wants to tell you that they will not be adding a channel, as that may lose a potential subcriber.  They like to keep you subscribing in your hope that they'll add a channel that you requested.

I would agree with you except that if you look earlier in the letter they come straight out and tell me that they have no plans of carrying the other two channels I asked about. I asked about all three channels in the same sentence. To go out of there way and seperate one from the other two leads me to believe there is a little more to it than "customer retention".

I will expect over time that all providers will supply Discovery HD Theatre.  It is one of those brand channels that is too big for a delivery company not to offer.  In the then, I think it is just a matter of time.

I hope that TW is getting more of their HD boxes out into the field, because I am sure they don't want to consume any more bandwidth until they have more people who can view it.  Instead they'd rather give us Teletubbies at 10pm and the Eagle nest channel

I ordered TWC digital today.  The girl I spoke with said:

"You will be able to get HDTV broadcasts of sports when the networks broadcast them."

She was referring to college basketball.  I then asked her if that means I will be able to get the networks primetime lineups in HDTV if the networks broadcast them that way.  This just confused her.

If you go to www.titantv.com  and select TWC Digital premium the channel guide lists the network shows as being shown in HD.  Is this true on the TWC box?

My understanding is that TWC in Milwaukee is not passing through any Local HDTV stations except for the occassional PBS feeds that are on the HDTV demo channel.

Lummox is correct in his statement.

Edit:

To further enhance the TitanTV comment, I believe that TitanTV shows which programs are available in HDTV (ie from source).  It does not show what is necessarily available though your provider.

That this means is that TitanTv will show shows on NBC and CBS as being in Hidef, but you will not be able to receive these shows on TWC digital as they do not pass though the digital feeds of NBC and CBS etc.

The only HDTV on TWC for now is HBO HD, Showtime HD and the PBS Demo Channel.  That's it!  Zip!  No more.  Still, with all that said, I still believe that TWC is the cheapest way to get *some* HDTV signals - good for introducing your significant other to the jobs of HDTV!

Hope this helps.

Kerry.

It's in!  And can I say wow!  I've seen in in the stores, but it does not compare to seeing HDTV in your own home.

Even the guys installing the cable thought that with this box I could get local channels in HD if they were broadcasting.

I told them this:

1. First off the local channels on TWC aren't even digital let alone in HD.
2. He explained that to get HD HBO I have to watch channel 721 on the STB, but I also have to change the video source on the TV to Video 6 (where the component inputs from the STB are located), otherwise I will get sound but no picture.  I told him using this logic, what channel am I supposed to tune to to get NBC in HD?  Is it always channel 4, if so then how does the STB know if I want it in HD or analog?  What if I didn't have HD ready TV?  He was confused and said that TWC training said that we could receive the local channel if they were being broadcast in HD.

I'm going to call the customer service line when I get a chance and let them know that their techs are giving out incorrect information.

Greg,

Welcome to the HDTV club!

If you were checking out HDO HD last night, did you catch the film Fresh?  It was a thought provoking film, and it had a beautiful picture.

As for the Technical reps, it is bad that they are giving out bad information.  Just goes to show that they really do not know what they are doing.  Its a shame it is not Time Warner Houston - just check out they web site.  They offer 9 (thats right NINE) HDTV channels!  Its shamefull that our Time Warner is so far behind.
