Spanish porn service offers DVD quality video-on-demand

Private Media Group, a provider of adult entertainment services, yesterday announced that it will offer a secure, high-quality video-on-demand (VOD) service on its broadband site.

The new service, which is powered by the DivXNetworks' Open Video System, enables broadband users to download full-motion, full-screen, DVD-quality Private titles. DivX SmartStart, a progressive download feature, will allow users to begin viewing films before downloads are completed, offering the convenience of streaming but at a higher quality level.

The DivX Open Video System, an end-to-end solution for the secure, profitable delivery of high quality video-on-demand, utilises a complete delivery management infrastructure and a proprietary digital rights management solution to ensure security. DivX video compression technology can reduce a DVD video to almost 10 per cent of its original size with no loss in quality.

DivX technology has been downloaded and used by over 75mn people around the world. Private expects "millions" of users to use new the new service.
