I just finished connecting my system and am running into some problems.  I am connecting twc's explorer 3100hd to a samsung txm-3296hf.  When I look at the standard and digital cable channels that looked normal before, they are smashed with gray bars on the side.  If I switch from component to s-video output, the picture returns to normal, but (obviously), I dont receive the hd signal.  The hdtv channels when broadcasting a true hd signal do fill up the whole screen, but from my understanding, it shouldn't because they are being broadcast in 16:9.  Movies on HBOhd should appear as if they are letterbox on my tv, but instead are full screen and distorted.  Any help would be appreciated.

I'm not familiar with the Samsung model you mentioned, but the symptoms sound like its a 4:3 set, and the cable box is set to 16:9.

you are correct that it is a 4:3 tv, but there is no way to change time warners cable box out of widescreen mode when using the component output.  The only workaround i found was to keep both the svideo and component inputs hooked up and switch the input to svideo for standard digital broadcasts.
