Anyone ever use an amplifier for TWC??

As I would expect many of you here realize, higher frequencies attenuate more than lower ones.  At this time, CBS-58's HD feed is lower in frequency on the system than any other HD service, followed by WISN & then PBS on the high end.  That explains why CBS is coming in OK and the rest are marginal.

Tips:
Skip the Radio Shack amps & contact TWC.  If there is a level problem, it is infinaltely better to get the signal levels corrected at the souce of the problem than try to mop them up after the fact.
The cable system is designed to handle virtually all install situations without the need for an amp, unless your house is more than 250' from a tap or you have many outlets in your home.  If an amp is needed, we usually install them for free anyway...  and they are MUCH better than virtually all retail products.
Also be careful of what kind of splitters you install.  They should have a bandpass of 5-750MHz.  Some only go up to 600MHz, which causes problems on digital services above that frequency.

And yes, a cable replacement can increase your signal level if the original one was damaged or of smaller size.

MHZ40,

I grew up in eagle!  Where do you live?

My Father is actually on the fire comission and Park and Planning. He is also a Town supervisor....I think he still is....

Anyway, Thanks for the feedback. I hope the TWC guys can get me up and running, cuz I sure like the simpleness of the setup!!

I have had great customer service on the last 3 calls. I hope they can juice me up!!

I had a similiar issue with signal strength. I got 4 TVs on analog cable, 1 on digital/HD, and a cable modem. I bought a Channel Vision CVT-2/8PIA II 8-way amplified splitter. Works great with HD, digital cable, and is supposed to be bi-directional for use with a cable modem (though I don't use it this way).

Hope this helps.

Well.....

"supervisor" was out today. I doubt he was a supervisor! Anyway, he told my wife that we were getting too much signal from the outside and when it gets cold that happens. I am not sure I can believe this, but what I told him was the hd channels were "ok" during the day but non existant at night. I will check the feed tonight, and if it cuts out......dish is getting unpacked and installed.

Thoughts?

Kurt,  I think you know my answer to that....unpack the dish.........by the way who was the supervisor....I know the guy who's supposed to be the big tech up here..he goes to the church across the street from me and years ago before I dumped them (they weren't TWC back then), I helped them find leaks in their system.  My ham radio station was wiping out channel 18's audio and Cedarburg police were wiping out channel 19.  If it was him...and I doubt it because he doesn't pull punches, he's real sharp on his job.

Hey Gregg!!

You are fast on the computer today!!

If your guy has all gold teeth in the front of his mouth, then it was him! I suspect it wasnt....wink wink!

I am just trying to get out of playing in the attic and getting a line down to my basement. Other than that, sat will be nice.

I think they just sent some other tech over to calm me.....

Working good tonight.........I will see!

Just curious if you were able to resolve your signal strength problem with TWC, or did you switch to a dish?

Hi John,

The tech said I had too much signal......whatever he did the HD channels are perfect now!

Now I just need my other projector! Tv in 35 inches is not near as good as HD at 100 inches!
