Hey Guys,

I have TWC, the dig and HD signal is poor. Tech came out and said my level was a 2. Pretty poor!!  SO for my SB party, assuming I dont get the sat installed, he suggested an amp for the signal. Will this be clean enough so my guests dont see crapola?

I don't think it's going to help.....neither is the sat dish...what you need is to get your OTA antenna up and tell TWC to take their crappy signal and jump in the lake.  I think you'd better call me Saturday and we'll get you ready for the SB Doc!

Gregg,

I think you are right! I just was not looking forward to freezin my jewels off putting up the antenna! LOL

Anyway, Radio shack has a bunch of antennas, I just dont want a roof top antenna.

It looks like my signal strength took a dive somewhere around or on the day CBS became available.

I just swapped the box and it didn't help. Is the addition of 58 enough to put the TW bandwidth over the "limit?" Just when they offer basic + HBOHD I have problems with just getting HBOHD.:bang: CBS works, NBC kind of works, ABC kind of works, and  all others go to "green" in 1 minute. :(

I had a problem with TWC HBO HD freezing up and the tech said the problem was low signal strength.  They replaced all the cable but the signal strength and freeze ups didn't improve.  I purchased their cable amp (50 bucks I believe) and the problem was solved.

I'm sure glad I don't have these problems. :)

I haven't experienced anything like this either. All the HD channels come in just fine for me.

My line level is 2 which is REALLY low. I need to have the signal boosted before it splits. I get blocky pixelated dig channels and no HD...well it comes in and out!

Time Warner actually installed one for me when they came out.  I was getting a 2, but they were able to boost it to a 10. PQ on Non-HD channels was still too bad for me to continue with them.

But they told me that it's important to put the amp as close to the source as possible.

Yes, I used a $30 amp from Radio Shack for a couple weeks...

Prior to using it, I could hardly get the HD channels (lots of digital decay, freezes, sound drops, etc.).  The main problem I had with the amp though, was that the audio was over-amplified, causing a lot of noise (like playing vinyl - I'm dating myself aren't I?).

Anyway, I had a TWC Tech come out and he said I was losing 30db by the time the signal got to my TV (was +17db coming in to the house).  He replaced cable heads, but the signal was still too weak.  He recommended I replace the current cable run with an un-split direct run.  So, I bought 75' of new RG6 cable from RS, strung it, and now the HD and digital audio are great!

I returned the amp to RS yesterday.

I have a whopping 14...

and it no longer works since 505 went on the air and looks much like you describe. Apparently, the next step is they fix something on the pole. :(

When I went from analog to digital cable a couple of years ago one of the new the boxes wouldn't grab a signal.  I split the cable in two. One goes directly to the Road Runner connection.  The other to a $25 Home Depot amp. Five cables out of the amp to 4 TVs and a HD projector.  The digital signals are fine and the analog works OK on the smaller TVs.

Whatever they did on the pole appears to have worked for now and brought it back to the previous state. The audio dropouts are still there on 510 at least though.

Ignore the above post.

Breakups galore again. An over amplified signal or "too strong" of a signal does not appear to help digital or HD reception from TWC.

Well,

TWC came out after I called and cried. They were supposed to up the juice. Well Since I still dont get a hd signal, I called. A very nice young lady helped me out. She said they were here and replaced a cable! WTF, that wont boost my signal!!  So she is sending a supervisor since this is the 3rd call in a week.

In the mean time I have a terk tv55 hooked up and running the hughes e86 STB. I can only get ch 12 in clearly, which is all I need!!

Now I still have to decide what to do. I like the ease of the cable, but the signal blows. I dont like the fact that I have to monkey around with an antenna in my attic. If the hd signal OTA is the same as the TWC signal when it works....I am all over the sat!

Thoughts???
