Sorry if this is very basic, but . . .

I took delivery yesterday of a Toshiba 57HDX82 (there is a heaven on earth).  I have TW (hd box).  I'm wondering if splitting the cable out of the wall --- one to the cable box (and then obviously to the tv) and one directly to tv -- will allow me to take advantage of PIP for viewing two different channels.

Picture in Picture is usually restricted to the using the internal tuners of the set...however some it is possible to use an aux input.  I don't know of any HD set that will allow PIP in HD mode...it only works in SD mode...so if you are feeding with Component Feeds for the HD box you will lose the PIP option.

I can do it. Did, as a matter of fact, last night.

Had on 'Star Search' on 1-1 in the main window, put channel 10 in OTA in the inset.

I've watched two football games, on Sunday Ticket, also using POP (Picture-Out of-Picture) side by side, one on my HD tuner (using component inputs) and one on my regular D* tuner.

It works on all combinations, except can't do DVD (component) and HD (component).

Well that's nice....my RCA won't allow PIP when in HD mode...which means when receiving a digital channel or using the Component inputs.......Are you doing the PIP within your Box and formatting it that way...or is your monitor doing the work.

It's my Mits handling the work. It's got very nice PIP capabilities.

I did exactly as you stated.  I can't watch PIP using the HD channels on my TWC box, but I can watch all the rest of the channels. I did it last night.  On the cable box we were watching "Bachelorette" and on the regular analog feed we were watching "American Idol."

Did I just admit this?:o  I'm going to watch some Discovery now.

The only limitation is that you can't watch two channels that are in the digital range.  For the picture and picture you can only watch from two video sources.  For example:

DVD and TWC box
TWC box and TV's internal tuner (analog)

You can also watch two channels on the internal tuner.

I think it's a newer feature for the Mits, my 55859 doesn't allow you to do much of anything with the digital stuff-- formatting or pip, can't do either.

I have the same tv and TW. You can't watch HD in PIP (Toshiba POP) but you have two tuners so can watch SD. Let me know if you need help wiring it up.

It works on my Mits 65807, a year older.  Do you have an internal HD tuner?  Maybe that's the difference.

It works on my year old Sony KP57HW40.  I get a 16:9 window for the HD and a 4:3 window for OTA.  Worked great with the NFL Ticket.  Either screen can be sized.  The HD can be changed to SD, change the TV to the SD input and PIP now shows (2) 4:3 scalable windows.  Very slick.
