Took the plunge; but I can only see 4-1

An HD SuperBowl and AFC Championship game were too much to pass up, so I took the plunge and got a Hughes E86.

I couldn't find a RS bowtie, so I went with the RS 15-1862.

4-1 NBC 28 was 100 right away.  Unfortunately I can't seem to get more than 6 on anything else.

I am about 3 miles north of Sussex, just south of Hwy Q.

Is location the problem?  antenna?  user error?

Any help would be appreciated!

Even with that indoor antenna in Sussex you should also be able to get 10 and 12's digital, 58's may be a little more tricky as they are running lower power and 6 there's no way you'll receive their low antenna and low power.  With the high signal on 4 you apparently have it hooked up proper.  Do a rescan with your receiver or just try the actual RF channel numbers for the digitals and then adjust the antenna slowly to give the receiver time to lock and decode.  Here's the actual RF channel #'s.

Channel 4  (28)
Channel 6  (33)
channel 10 (8)
Channel 12 (34)
Channel 58 (46)

good luck and let us know how you do.

Welcome!  Since your getting WTMJ DT at 100 you should have no problem getting WISN DT on 34 or WDJT DT on 46. From your location the towers are all about in the same direction.  Maybe first thing to do is try a re-scan. If you get 28, the others should be no problem. Only Milw. station you won't get if Fox 6 (33).

I'm looking for that same RS 15-1862 antenna. Where'd you get yours? How much did you have to give for it?

Brett;)

Thank you for the quick reply.  This forum has been a tremendous help in the process.

CBS 58 (46) is the key for me right now.  I'd love to be able to see the title game tomorrow.  I've seen mention of padding down the signal.  I guess I will have to investigate that.

Actually a friend of mine picked it up for me.  I believe it was the Radio Shack at 6507 S 27th St in Franklin, but I will confirm.  $60 reduced to $20.  He mentioned there were two there when he picked mine up.

OK, so I've messed around with it a bit and can actually get a signal strength of 51 on CBS.  The catch is, I have to stand next to the antenna and hold my hand behind it.

I could have my wife stand there for the whole football game, but that seems extreme.  :p

What would cause this and can it be fixed?

Went out and got a 15-1890 and although not a rock solid signal, still in the 50-60 range and I've got a picture!  Can't wait to see what all the commotion is about. :)

I live in Germantown and have to use different antennas for almost every station.
I got public apartment roof antenna, radioshack and Zenith silver Sensor.
Zenith is the only one that can pick up CBS, usually around 60% I picked mine up at Circuit City for $40.

FYI. I don't know if it applies to everyone or just me but different stations need higher reception percentage to display "UNinterrupted" picture.

CBS requires a minimum of 36%
NBC usually lasts until 45% percent before the picture starts pixelating.
PBS wants 52%
ABC being the worse one requiring at least 60% reception Not that it really matters since I got ABC and NBC at almost a 100% between the 3 antennas.

ALSO A WORD to TWC. Now that you have almost all local stations in HD, offer them as a standalone package without requiring HBO or ShowTime subscription. Like many people I have directTV which currently is lacking the local channels in High Def. However, I'm not going to spend 10 more a month to get HBO which I already have on DTV.

definately scan with that receiver cannot enter channels manually.

I was quite impressed with the AFC title game although it was my first experience with an HDTV broadcast.

My wife commented that it looked so clear it almost looked fake. :)

Can't wait for the Super Bowl!

Oh man thats too funny:

Wait till you watch some show and you can see all the pancake makeup on the actors. I remember watching Charlies Angels in HD on HBO awhile back...I could see how terrible Cameron Diaz's complextion was, all red and blotchy.

You do not need HBO or Showtime to have the HS channels.  I don't.

But if you don't, you have to get at least the $40 Digital Cable package.

I believe he was referring to just getting basic cable ($12 or whatever) with an HD box so he can get local channels.

You can Manually enter and lock channels on an E-86 I`ve done it often.
