WISN reception

I have a Mits 65869 and a Terk 55 antenna. I receive WISC on 3.01, UPN14 on 3.02, PBS on 10.x, WTMJ on 4.01, and WHA on 21.1 and 21.2. All of these stations come in pretty good. I receive WISN on 12.01 intermittently, but the sound is shaky and the picture is worse - like a digital image in freeze frame.

The Terk is on my roof and the cable is 75' of RG6. There is a amp on the antenna.

Is channel 12 broadcast bad or is it my setup? Any ideas? I need this fixed by SuperBowl time.

I am looking at our Coverage map and you should get us just fine. Eagle is in the SW corner of Waukesha county, right? Is the terk a directional antenna? Try tweaking your antenna a bit. Just a bit to the left if looking towards milwaukee, and I mean a very small bit......or is that byte?

One thing I will say about 12's reception is that it seems to be much more dense than the other channels. What I mean by that is on most other channels if I have a signal of 70 or higher that occasionally drops into the 60's I will still get a perfect picture with no breakups. With 12 it seems that if the signal drops into the 70's (all readings aer on my Hughes E86) I will start getting mild to sever breakup. The only way I am guaranteed a perfect picture on 12 is to fiddle with the antenna to get a constant 90's with an "occasional" drop into the 80's. Much more finnicky than the other stations. Fox I can grab without breakups with a 44 signal (granted it's 480p). :p

Terk's have a bad reputation.  Many seem to have trouble with them.  Since WISN's signal is among the strongest around, I wouldn't be surprised to find the amplifier is distorting or over-driving the signal.

You might want to consider removing the amp from the signal path.  Its sure cold to be doing that though.:bang:

I am considerably west of Eagle (Fontana) and I can pick up WISN, as well as CBS, and NBC, fine with a small 4 bowtie UHF antenna and a UHF preamp located 10' over roof line.  I don't know if those Terk antennas are worth the price.

QuoteI don't know if those Terk antennas are worth the price.

And I'd say that as well for more rural areas.  The 55 has a relatively small gain amp which again is suited more for metro areas.  I thought the TV-60 was cool, until I learned it costs about $400.  In Eagle, you need function, not fashion.  Winegard, Channel Master, or Radio Shack-- give me a call, you've got the number.

Based on my dad's experience (also in Eagle), you probably more need to compensate for the 75' of cable, and if you had a reasonable receptor, that would make all the difference in the world.

I replaced the Terk with a Winegard 7084 and I get all stations. Thanks.
