I think the expression is:  "What were you smoking?"  Seriously, something must have been wrong with his setup.  OTA, on 50" plasma, was about as good as it gets!  Thought that fan in the shoulder pads with silver spikes was going to reach right out the screen and grab me!!
No kidding, how can you rate that a "c" that's kinda harsh.

Now, now, hold on a minute here.  We are still pioneers, early adopters, or whatever else Tim's calling us now  Richfield looks to be a little west and north of Germantown, so I'd think that this is in pretty good reception postion for 58 (compared to Racine for example) from what I remember seeing here in another thread-- maybe that's changed some.

Point is, at most stations current broadcasting power, the signal coverage just isn't quite what their analog coverage is, and understandbly so-- these are companies that ultimately need to make a profit (I digress, a whole 'nother discussion).  And each site will be different with respect to how much signal is available to tune, and a bunch of other things like antenna type, postion, length of line, splits, the list goes on.  Typically what we see with digital transmissions is lower signals strengths artifact sooner than higher ones, hence the blotchy pictures at times of more action.

I have spent a lot of time tuning my setup, made some mistakes, but eventually made improvements-- lots of us here have gone down the same road.  As I saw both AFC games last week, they have improved in picture quality each time.  The Raider/Jet game was reasonable, the Titan/Steeler game better still.  Yesterday's Raider/Titan game was the best of the three at my house (that's the key I think).  However, I really want to see how the ABC broadcast compares to a quickly fading memory.

There is another thread that I saw mentioning the bandwidth allocation for last weeks games, it was higher for Sunday-- don't recall what it was for yesterday, but I'd guess the same as the Titan/Steeler game or better.  However, with the people we had over for yesterday's game were pretty impressed.

Small steps Sparks, small steps.....

Uh, I have to agree. I thought it was about as good as I have ever seen including the games on HDNet this fall. I did catch hints of artifacting on closeups of individual players...but only for a split second.
I say good job Jim Hall. I could deal with multi-casting (almost) if every sports event looks this good.

You mean the one that dropped the f-bomb?

I had the game buffering on my Tivo at the same time, and was curious to see if they did anything with the vulgarity, but nope, same thing.  "get off the bleeping track" or something to that affect.

This was my first HDTV experience as I finally located an antenna that brought in CBS and ABC, http://www.milwaukeehdtv.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1197
so I can't compare it to anything, but I thought the picture was spectacular.

Had a few slight dropouts, but I only have a 51 signal strength.

I agree, the Titans-Raiders game was superb from HD angle. I took the opportunity to compare CBS58's signal to WISC's Madison DT signal - there was no difference (Madison simulcasts only one other signal). When I looked at the multicast channels I could see that 41 was heavily compressed but since it was a religious show with a talking head it didn't matter, and Telemundo's signal was even more compressed. So this will work as long as the presentations on the non-HD channels are relatively static. Now next Sunday we get to see how the WISN no multicasting picture looks with every scrap of bandwidth dedicated to the HD pic.

Yes,

I was watching the same game as everyone else.  I was in West Bend.  To remind people with digital you either get a signal or you do not.  There were no breakups or the usual drop in signal stuff so I believe the things we saw were the result of less then full bandwidth.

For reference I ask people to remember the old DirectTV promo loop with the Jets / Bills game.  Now that was impressive video quality and I saw if many times on the same setup.  The setup I watched the game on included a RCA DTC 100.  I wonder if that has more trouble then other STB's with a signal that has less then full bandwidth.  On my home system with a Samsung 165 I saw a much better picture on the college games.  Hmm, perhaps I protest too much.

To be clear I think Jim and company have done a great job and I am very happy he has chosen to join us in this forum.
