ESPN HD will kick off March 30 with ESPN's first Major League Baseball game, which features the Texas Rangers visiting the world champion Anaheim Angels, ESPN officials said Thursday.

"Baseball, a sport steeped in tradition, is a great way to kick off ESPN HD and what will be the future of sports television," ESPN president George Bodenheimer said in a prepared statement.

ESPN released not only the launch date for its new HD service, but also announced the early schedule for it.

The ESPN HD lineup from April through June also includes the Women's NCAA Basketball Final Four, the National Basketball Association Eastern Conference Finals, games from the National Hockey League's Stanley Cup and six telecasts from the College World Series.

ESPN HD will offer 100 live HD telecasts during its first year. And most of ESPN's studio shows, including SportsCenter, will be added in 2004, providing an additional 3,700 hours of HDTV programming.
