After some experimenting, $1,200 in extra equipment and a software upgrade to our encoder, two of our engineers finally got Closed Captioning on 34-1 to work. You might have noticed that is was working only during our news programs before, but it should now be there all the time. Even during HD broadcasts. We have been advised that some of the STB out there might not decode the signal. Apparently there are different types of CC formats, I have no idea why there should be. We have a couple of Samsung's here and it works fine on them.

Now I put this here because some of you have noticed these little white dots on your screens. We assume these were from the software upgrade. Yesterday we had to re-seat one of the encoder cards in order for it to essentially reboot itself.

On Wednesday some of you noted that we were off air in the evening. I believe that the TW subscribers saw that. We were off air in the afternoon from about 4:15PM to around 5:30PM for the software upgrade. I think that TW might have thought something was wrong with their equipment so they took it offline for troubleshooting later in the evening, I'm just guessing.

Sweet! I was wondering if anyone was doing CC on digital.  Working OK on my DTC-100

Is that why I had no sound on 34-1 (12-1) last night around 9 pm?  I never thought to play around with CC.  I will have to check it out.  BTW, the white dot/spot was gone.

Thanks for the update Paul.

I guess the good news is that if we ever lose sound again in the future, we can turn on the closed captioning, eh? ;)
