On/Off Topic Chit-Chat / 2 channel setup
Sunday Mar 06, 2011, 01:22:49 PM
I'm hoping that some of the peeps here are into audio as well and could perhaps help me out with a nice 2 channel setup for headphones.  AVS is just sooo overwhelming sometimes.  Ultimately, I'd like to put together a nice little 2 channel (tube?) amp and headphone rig (think man-cave...chair, table, headphone rig, yeah :)

I'd then look for a nice CD transport and possibly add a turntable at some point.  I'd like to put this together in stages; amp would be first and used with my existing cans and probably MP3 player until I get a CD transport for the setup.

Suggestions?  Thoughts?  I've put this in Google a couple times over the years and have checked out various AVS threads but this really seems to be a niche thing these days and I just haven't gotten around to the deep digging that's really required I guess.

I'm thinking that I need to buy my parents a universal remote and I'm seeking some recommendations.  Basically, I keep having to reprogram things due to accidental button presses and things getting all out of whack.  My parents are in Racine so they're not that far away but still.  Sometimes I'm able to help them over the phone (like a few days ago), other times I'm not so lucky and they get very frustrated.

Basically, I'm looking for a simple to use remote that could control their TWC DVR box, a Sony TV and BDP, and a Yammy AVR.  I'm thinking that if I can just get the real remotes out of their hands, I can cut down on the accidental button presses (the other day my father seemed to have some accidentally switched input sources so that cable audio is present only when the AVR is set to DVD instead of DTV, even though I had a "memory guard" setting enabled to attempt to prevent this sort of accident).  While I don't mind helping, they end up getting even more frustrated that I do.

I've looked at various Harmonies throughout the past few years for myself but I've never broken down and gotten one.

Thoughts?  Suggestions?

On/Off Topic Chit-Chat / TWC raises prices for DVR
Thursday Jan 17, 2008, 07:32:25 PM
I just got a bill today and it looks to me like they've raised the price of DVR service and the cable box.  It's been a while since I looked closely at my bill and I don't save them but what caught my eye today was the fact that my automated monthly payment is now a little short.  The DVR service was listed at $8.50 (I thought it used to be something like $6.50) and the 8300 DVR box is now $7.21 (I thought that was $6.95).  At least they didn't raise the price of the remote

I have two boxes so am not only being charged for the boxes but being charged twice for my DVR service (as I know many of you are too).

I've about had enough of this.  I have stuck it out with TWC because I don't want a stinking dish on my house but I'm getting pretty close to my breaking point as this is getting ridiculous.  They're losing customers left and right so they actually raise the prices for the customers who have stuck with them through their crappy service!?  That just doesn't make any sense at all! :bang:

Administration and Suggestions / "Forum Tools"
Wednesday Oct 25, 2006, 11:35:01 AM
Is it just me or does the "Forum Tools" not work in the HDTV Forums?  I like to go through a forum, looking at new posts and then use the "Forum Tools" in that forum to mark the forum as read.  For some reason, that pulldown doesn't work for me in only the HDTV Forums area.  It seems strange.  Is it just me???
