Has anyone heard when TWC in the MKE area, TWC will stop providing channels via Analog cable.  I've not yet taken the time to go the Cablecard route with my TiVo boxes.  But I am still receiving analog signals with those boxes - and using antenna for OTA channels.  I've heard the MKE area might be the last location where TWC will stop the analog signals - in 2016.  And I've not heard of any changes this fall.

On/Off Topic Chit-Chat / TWC Loop
Thursday Jul 10, 2014, 08:14:38 PM
Hi Bob, thanks for the info.  AT&T is NOT running fiber to the home in our location.  They will be running their standard copper phone wiring from the home to their 'Brown Box' where the fiber connections are.

On/Off Topic Chit-Chat / What is a TWC loop?
Wednesday Jul 09, 2014, 09:13:41 PM
I recently had some AT&T reps in my neighborhood going door to door promoting AT&T TV and Internet services.  Once I mentioned I was a TWC customer, the first thing they mentioned was 'did you know you are on a loop in your neighborhood?'

Is this a good thing or bad thing to have when it comes to Internet and Cable?

They also promoted their new fiber installation in the area where I live which is in West Allis (HWY 100 & Lincoln Av).

Does any one know if switching to UVerse Internet and/or TV will be a big improvement over staying with TWC cable and internet service?

Milwaukee HDTV Technical Issues / followup
Monday Nov 25, 2013, 04:02:02 PM
Hi Loadstar, thanks for the info, its very helpful.  One other question: if I were to upgrade my TWC service to 'Preferred TV' which is essentially the main digital cable service, will that level service provide just digital signals only to my Tivo?
And does the 'Preferred TV' level eliminate what TWC has a 'Starter TV' and 'Basic or Standard TV?

Has anyone lately gone through the experience with TWC installing cable cards in Tivo Premiere boxes?  I saw some threads from late 2011 and reading those posts would tell me its not worth the hassle.  Any comments?

My other questions:
1)  Can I self install the cable card?
2)  Do I need the tuning adapter? (my current TWC subscription is for channels 3-99)
3)  When will TWC end analog cable and convert all of the 3-99 channels to digital only? (ie. when will they stop the simulcasting practice of providing both digital and analog signals)?
4) Are other Tivo models better with regards to using cable cards (ie. Roamio vs Premier boxes)?

Milwaukee HDTV Equipment / Recommendations for Antenna
Sunday Nov 27, 2011, 08:25:32 PM
I'm considering purchasing an outdoor antenna to pickup local HD programming.  Any recomendations for brands & models and installation tips.  I'm located in West Allis, close to Hwy 100 & I 94 about 1 mile West of the Fair Park.  I have a lot of trees in my yard except for south part of the yard.

Milwaukee HDTV Technical Issues / Receiver Help
Tuesday Aug 12, 2008, 02:41:05 PM
Well, it helps to READ user manuals.  The Sony manual, in the troubleshooting section, tells you if you are not getting  the DTS-HD signals, to set the BD Audio Parameter to 'Direct'; default is 'Mix'.  I did this on the 'Night at the Museum' disk, and the receiver displays 'DTS-HD'.  And sound is present on all 7 speakers.

I did not get a chance to rent a 7.1 DTS-HD disk.

The Sony 350 Player is at the latest rev, which 7.04.  I checked for updates as well and there are none right now.

When the BD Audio parameter is set to 'Direct', the manual says you will not hear the second audio tracks - ie. the commentaries.   Strange that Sony would 'disable' DTS-HD detection out of the box.

Also, on other Dolby digital 5.1 disks, the sound from the receiver is on all 7 speakers, but the indicator lights are not on for the SB speakers.

Also, I only have an HDMI cable hooked to the Sony blu-ray player.

Think I'm good for now, thanks for the help1

Milwaukee HDTV Technical Issues / Receiver Help

I don't have a 7.1 disc.  The speaker indicators for the SB (left & right) never come on, for any disk that I play (blu-ray or reg DVD).  Which is confusing me because at first, I thought the receiver was bad.  In other words, I would expect the receiver to distribute sound to the SB speakers, even though the format is 5.1 DD, or DTS.  So should the speaker lights come on for the SB speakers when there is encoded material, or should the SB lights be on when any sound is being passed to the SB speakers?  I think my Sony DE-998 had all the speaker lites on when a 5.1 sound source was being decoded.

The receiver is set for Auto Surround.  I even 'cycle' thru the 3 modes - auto surround, direct, and direct stream, and it makes no difference.  Would I be better off using a different blu-ray player (like to stick with Sony) or a different receiver?

The receiver does support DTS-HD decoding.   The setup does have the DTS selected.   The other thing I noticed is that the lights on the receiver for the SB speakers never come on, no matter what sound field I select on the receiver.  I might consider the Onkyo if I can't get this working....do you have the 605 or 606 Onkyo

Checked the blu-ray player settings, and they are correct for HD.  The receiver display reads 'PCM+DProLogicII', which I don't understand because the blu-ray disc has DTS-HD encoding.  The blu-ray player lights that are on are 24P, HD, HDMI, when the disk is being played.  Any other ideas?

Milwaukee HDTV Technical Issues / Receiver Help

Thanks for the suggestion.   I thought the BD player was already set for HDMI but will double check.   I am using an HDMI cable between the Pioneer and the Sony player, and the input source (BD) on the receiver is set for HDMI. BTW, any opinions on Pioneer HD receivers, better or worse than other brands?

Milwaukee HDTV Technical Issues / Receiver Help

I recently purchased the Pioneer VSX-1018 receiver, with Sony S350 blu-ray player, for an existing 7.1 system, that I am upgrading.  Whenever I put in a blu-ray disc, the Auto Surround setting on the Pioneer detects the audio as Pro Logic but then quickly switches to PCM.  I was using a Sony DE998 with the AFD, and was used to the Sony detecting the correct audio format.  What am I missing on the Pioneer?  The blu ray disc I was using is "Night at the Museum".   Any help would be most appreciated!
